Massage therapy is the scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for the purpose of normalizing those tissues. Massage is generally considered part of complementary and integrative medicine. More and more, massage is being offered along with standard treatments for a wide range of medical conditions.
Massage is known to provide a number of benefits, including, but not limited to:
Greater flexibility and range of motion
Relief of muscle spasms
Relief of muscle tension
Reduce or eliminate headaches
Helps to reduce the formation of excess scar tissue and promotes faster healing of soft tissue injuries.
There are over 200 available massage techniques. At First Chiropractic we use a combination of techniques to ensure you are getting the right help.
Massage may be prescribed to you as part of an overall treatment program. You can also schedule just a massage, a massage in combination with an adjustment, or any other therapy we offer.
Don’t think massage is only for pampering yourself, it can be a powerful tool to help you and your doctor achieve the results you desire.
What to expect during a massage
Your massage therapist will ask you about your symptoms and your medical history. They will then explain the type of massage and techniques they will use. You will then undress to your comfort level. The therapist will then begin the massage, and you just relax and enjoy. Yes, it feels great and is also beneficial. Sessions last anywhere from 10 minutes to 60 minutes depending on what the therapist is trying to accomplish. Some areas may feel tender while you are getting a massage. This is normal. However, if you feel pain, let us know.
